What is Hospice?

coupleHospice is a special kind of care for terminally ill people and their families.

Hospice care is for people that will no longer benefit from aggressive treatment aimed at cure of life extension.

The Hospice of Salina team of health care professionals provides a life-affirming climate in which:

  • Patients maintain control over their final life experiences and live the remaining days with a sense of personal dignity and worth.
  • Family members' participation in caring for the patient is encouraged and supported.
  • Family members are supported through the process of grieving and return to the mainstream of life.

Hospice of Salina treats the person, not the disease. The patient and family are admitted to Hospice of Salina care.

Hospice is caring, not curing. The focus is on quality of living, not length of life.

Hospice of Salina treats physical, emotional and spiritual symptoms, helping patients and families reach comfort in all areas os they can live life to the fullest every day.

Most care is received at home where most people would rather remain though Hospice of Salina cares for people wherever they may be -- in senior living centers, assisted living, nursing homes.

Hospice of Salina supports the family through the bereavement period for at least one year of the patient's death.

Bereavement services are available to anyone in the community who has experienced a loss simply by calling the Hospice of Salina office.
