WHAT VOLUNTEERS MEAN TO HOSPICE OF SALINA

A serious illness in the family can make it hard to do everyday chores, especially as the illness progresses. "If only you had another pair of hands" We hear this a lot.

The volunteers at Hospice of Salina area special gift of unselfish service given to people in need and to the community they serve. People who want to volunteer for Hospice of Salina do not need special talents - they simply need a desire to serve.

Volunteer Services:

BECOMING A VOLUNTEER

Becoming a volunteer can be a one hour commitment per month or a ten hour a week commitment. It doesn't matter if you can give a lot or a little; we are always looking for the right people. All volunteers are required to fill out an application and consent to a background check. Once the application and background check consent are received, the volunteer coordinator will call the prospective volunteer and schedule an interview.

VOLUNTEER TRAINING

All of our volunteers are trained and screened, interviewed and chosen for their talents. Volunteers know how to contact a Hospice of Salina nurse if anything unexpected happens. Each volunteer receives continued education and is required to attend at least two meetings per year and must be current on all shots including TB. Flu shots are encouraged.

VOLUNTEER TESTIMONIALS

Hello Everyone! My name is Karen Laas and I have been a volunteer for Hospice of Salina since February 2012. I became a volunteer for Hospice of Salina with the mindset that I could make a difference for Hospice patients and their families as they face end of life issues and concerns. It is a rewarding experience that I could have never imagined and I am so happy to be part of such a wonderful organization as Hospice of Salina.
